On 1st September 2015 lurganancestry.com was five years old, and to celebrate our birthday we have launched an exclusively unique database of people who have lived and worked in Lurgan Town since around 1700 up until 1970!! This ambitious long term project which we've called “The Lurgan Town Householders and Traders Index”, will, over time, list the ordinary men and women, tradesmen and householders in a searchable database. You can search by name, year, occupation and street and follow your ancestors down through the years. We have launched the Index with 1500 names and will be adding more records daily. You can find The Lurgan Town Householders and Traders Index in our Records section or by clicking HERE
Lurgan (from the Irish: an Lorgain meaning "the long ridge") is a town in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The town is near the southern shore of Lough Neagh and in the north-eastern corner of the county. Now part of the Craigavon Borough Council area, Lurgan is about 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Belfast and is linked to the city by both the M1 motorway and the Dublin–Belfast railway line. It had a population of about 23,000 at the 2001 Census. Take a look at our history section for a timeline of major events.
The Lurgan Ancestry Project is dedicated to all those sons and daughters of Lurgan and surrounding areas down through the ages. It is hoped that the information found in our pages will help you discover your Lurgan roots. Over time we hope to put together the story of Lurgan, through newspaper articles, census, birth, marriage and other records, photographs and Lurgan family histories.
All of the information on this website is free for you to use, but at no time may it be used on websites that charge for information or be sold for profit. If you would like to make a donation to the Lurgan Ancestry Project to enable us to add more records, your contribution will be gratefully received. Can You Help?
We update the website with new directories, photos, birth, marriage and death records, old newspapers and information on a regular basis, we hope you will come back regularly to see the new content. Contributors to the website are all volunteers and give their time freely and unconditionally. You can read more about them on our About Us page.
If you have any old photos, BMD records, historical articles or information about Lurgan and the surrounding area, we would love to publish it on the website. You can can send us any images or documents via our upload page HERE
The information on this website is free and will always be so. However, there are many documents and records that we would like to show here that are only available for sale. If you would like to make a donation to the Lurgan Ancestry project, however small (or large!), to enable us to acquire these records, it would be very much appreciated. We could cover our pages in Goggle Ads to raise money, but feel that this would detract from the information we are trying to provide.
You can also help us to raise money by purchasing some of our ebooks on our sister website: www.genespdf.com
The Lurgan Ancestry Project is a not for profit website, all monies raised from the site go back into it.
