Our thanks to one of our followers for sending us this photo of Jack Curran. John Joseph Curran (1898 – 1932) was an Irish professional footballer who made 180 Football League appearances playing as a full back for Brighton & Hove Albion. Born in Belfast, he started his career playing for Lurgan Rangers and Glenavon. He won domestic and representative honours in both Ireland and Wales, and was capped five times for Ireland.
The first Gaelic Football Team in Lurgan. They were called the Davitts GAC and were formed in 1909 when this photo was taken. James McCorry (sitting 2nd from right with large moustache). Other names are Mr Filbin ( sitting centre in suit) who owned Filbin bakery, the player with his pet dog was called Quinn, the tall player on the left standing is Charlie McCorry and the player (2nd from right sitting ) Jimmy Murthagh was the founder of the team.
